How to Keep Your Air Conditioner Working at its Prime

This summer, make the comfort in your DSLD home a bit easier on you and your family! Your home was designed as an open system with one central return, which means all rooms and passageways serve to carry air back to the return. When the doors are closed, it can obstruct airflow back to the return and the more doors are left open, the more efficient your system will operate. Make sure to check your filter monthly and replace when it is dirty. Every home is different and filters reach capacity at different rates in different homes.

You will want to ensure that your outdoor condenser remains free from obstructions, a common problem is grass clippings clogging the coil fins. Lastly, your HVAC system should be inspected annually by a licensed HVAC technician!

A few key tips:

  • Program thermostat for cooling and heating settings for reduced energy usage.
  • Replace/clean heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) air filters.
  • Check thresholds, door sweeps, and weather stripping on exterior doors to maintain airtightness and adjust as necessary.
  • Verify HVAC condensate drain is flowing freely while air conditioner is running.
  • Verify the float switch or overflow pan on a second-floor air handling until is clear of obstructions and functioning properly.

If you want to see some of these tips in action, check out our Customer Care Videos!
