Building Your DSLD Home: What to Expect from Start to Finish

At DSLD Homes, we know that building a home is more than just pouring concrete and putting up walls — it’s about creating the place where your life will unfold for years to come. That’s why we’ve developed a construction process focused on transparency, quality, and care, with clear steps that guide you from groundbreaking to move-in (and beyond).

Here’s a look at the 7 key stages of building your new DSLD home:

1. Permits Stage & Foundation

Before construction begins, we submit your home’s plans for approval through the local Parish or County. Once the permits are secured, we get to work preparing your homesite — grading the land and laying the foundation that will support your home for decades to come.

This stage includes:

  • Installing plumbing beneath the foundation
  • Laying a moisture barrier for protection
  • Adding rebar and wire mesh for strength
  • Pouring and curing the concrete

It’s the first major step in bringing your dream home to life!

2. Framing Stage

Here’s where your home really starts to rise. Our framing crew constructs the interior and exterior walls, ceiling framing, and roof decking. We also install:

  • Radiant barrier for energy efficiency
  • Barricade Plus Home Wrap for moisture protection
  • Exterior doors and windows

Once everything is in place, your home is inspected to ensure it meets all local building codes.

3. Top Out Stage

At this stage, your home’s essential systems go in:

  • Plumbing is extended throughout the home
  • HVAC systems are installed
  • Electrical wiring is completed
  • Bathtubs and showers are set

Insulation is then applied using our high-efficiency Blow-In Blanket (BIB) system, with foam sealing to minimize air leaks. An inspection ensures all systems are installed safely and properly.

4. Drywall & Exteriors Stage

Now you’ll really start to see your home take shape inside and out.

  • Drywall is hung, textured, and finished
  • Stucco, vinyl siding, and brick are installed on the exterior

This phase brings visual transformation to your home and sets the stage for all the interior details.

5. Interiors, Punch Out, & Quality Control Stage

Time for the finishing touches! We’ll install:

  • Interior doors, cabinetry, and trim
  • Paint on walls, trim, and cabinets
  • Tile flooring in wet areas like bathrooms and the laundry room

Once the finishes are in place, our 1,000-point Quality Control Inspection begins. Your DSLD superintendent will complete a second walkthrough to make sure everything is move-in ready. We don’t cut corners — your satisfaction is our top priority.

6. Homeowner Orientation & Walk-Throughs

You’ll be invited to a New Homeowner Orientation, where your superintendent will:

  • Show you how systems work
  • Offer maintenance tips
  • Review your selections
  • Note anything that needs adjustment

Then, we’ll schedule a Final Walk-Through just before closing to ensure everything has been completed to your expectations and DSLD’s standards. You’ll walk in with peace of mind — and walk out with keys in hand!

7. Customer Care & Warranty

Even after you move in, we’ve got your back. DSLD Homes offers a dedicated Customer Care team and a comprehensive warranty program that protects your investment long after closing.
