Behind the Walls: Hidden Features That Make Your DSLD Home More Efficient

At DSLD Homes, energy efficiency isn’t just a feature — it’s a foundation. Every DSLD home is built to meet strict EnergyStar® certification standards, which means lower energy bills, better year-round comfort, and a more environmentally responsible homeownership experience.

From the roof to the foundation, our homes are designed with advanced systems and materials that work together to reduce energy use and increase long-term savings — without sacrificing style or performance.

Here’s how we build energy-smart from the ground up:

A Tightly Sealed Building Envelope

It all starts with a tightly sealed building envelope — the physical barrier between the interior of your home and the outside environment. By minimizing air leaks, your home retains conditioned air better, reducing the strain on your HVAC system and keeping your energy costs down.

Weather-Resistant Barrier: Like a Windbreaker for Your Home

We use a home wrap system that acts like a windbreaker over insulation. It keeps air and moisture from penetrating your home while allowing your insulation to perform at its highest level. This layer helps regulate your home’s interior temperature and protects it from weather-related damage.

Radiant Barrier Roof Decking

To combat summer heat, DSLD installs radiant barrier roof decking in every home (where available). This feature blocks up to 97% of radiant heat, keeping your attic up to 30°F cooler and reducing cooling costs by up to 15%. And the best part? It’s completely maintenance-free for the life of your home.

High-Density R-15 BIBS Wall Insulation

We use the Blow-In Blanket System (BIBS) for wall insulation — a modern approach that provides a tighter seal than traditional methods. BIBS insulation fills gaps around outlets, pipes, and framing with higher R-values, ensuring better energy performance and fewer drafts.

R-38 Fiberglass Attic Insulation

In the attic, we install R-38 fiberglass loose-fill insulation, which holds a consistent R-value and doesn’t settle like cellulose. It’s also naturally fire-resistant, offering both safety and long-term insulation performance.

Low-E3 Windows for Year-Round Comfort

Every DSLD home includes Low-E3 double-pane windows, which reduce heat transfer by up to 64% compared to standard glass. These advanced windows keep your home cooler in summer and warmer in winter — all while protecting interior finishes from UV damage.

Tankless Water Heaters

In communities with gas service, we install tankless water heaters that heat water on demand instead of maintaining a full tank. This not only reduces energy usage, but also ensures a continuous supply of hot water — perfect for busy households or guests during the holidays.

Smarter Homes for a Greener Tomorrow

Choosing a DSLD home means choosing a smarter way to live. From lower monthly utility bills to increased resale value, energy efficiency adds real, long-term benefits to your life.
